What would be a good "opening day" gift for a new small business owner?

My husband is opening a small cafe next month. He has been working tirelessly to get it open and will be working long hours for a long time after opening. I want to give him a gift that says, I%26#039;m proud of you, you can do anything you set your mind to, I love you, I%26#039;m here to support you, and good luck. Tall order, I know.

I don%26#039;t want it to be too cheesy (ie engraved paperweight or inspirational posters) or funny. I%26#039;m going for meaningful and possibly even utilitarian - I considered a gift certificate for a massage/spa day but it seemed too trite and impersonal.

Perhaps a piece of jewelry or really good pair of shoes (for standing in all day)?

I was hoping to stay under $100, but would consider more for the right gift.

Reply:I%26#039;m thinking... a piece of jewelry, like a necklace, with a piece hanging from it where you could ask the store to write the name of the bakery.

If too expensive, go to www.cutco.com and buy a nice kitchen utensil that%26#039;d signify the bakery on which you%26#039;d engrave his name and the bakery%26#039;s name ;). If it were me, I%26#039;d love something like that. He could use it in the store later.

I used to work for Cutco, they make, arguably, the best knives in the world.
Reply:Will he be the chef as well as owner? You could get him a nice chef%26#039;s jacket with his name embroidered on it. Or, if it%26#039;s a more casual atmosphere, you could order matching aprons , t-shirts or caps for him and his employees, mostly for very reasonable prices. Here is a link to a site that lists several manufacturers, most of whom offer personalization: http://www.allheartchefs.com/

You could also find a nice leather calendar or personalized stationary. This place has beautiful stuff, although it%26#039;s a little pricey: http://www.levenger.com/

You might also consider a sturdy, water-proof watch, always useful in a kitchen. For $100 you could find one with bells and whistles (alarms etc) that guys usually love.

Good luck with the new enterprise!
Reply:How about a professionally matted shadow box to display the first dollar he makes engraved with the date of the grand opening , and some sincere sentiment of your trust in him ?
Reply:A TERRIFIC GIFT FOR THE NEW BUSINESS WOULD BE A LOVELY GREEN PLANT..PERHAPS A PARLOUR PALM

GOOD LUCK
Reply:how about a picture of him in front of his business so he can hang it on the wall of the business and look at it to remind him of all his hard work back then
Reply:36 hours in one day--would help
Reply:A gift card entitling him to labors you can give to him.
