After standing on my feet all day, the ball of my left foot aches to stand on and hurts to walk. What's wrong?

I worked a retail shift on Saturday, and when I woke up Sunday, my foot hurt to put my weight on. It was even worse on Monday. It%26#039;s worse when I%26#039;m barefoot on hardwood floors than wearing shoes. Any idea what%26#039;s going on? What do I need to do to help my foot - stretch? Massage? Stay off of it?

I%26#039;d recommend making an appointment to see your nearest podiatrist for an evaluation. What may be happening is with prolonged standing and walking the toe joint especially the one next to the big toe get all the weight. Overtime, this can cause swelling and pain and inability to put the weight down barefooted. Why? The big toe joint isn%26#039;t doing it%26#039;s job - meaning it%26#039;s not bearing the weight its supposed to and is limited in motion only with standing and walking. This situation is worse when you%26#039;re in heels. Use ice and Advil/Aleve until you see the doctor. You%26#039;ll likely need to be fitted with an orthotic (shoe inserts). Hope this helps!
Reply:I would get a good massage and stay off of it, but if it worsens, I would call my doc.
